Introducing BRG's Research Portal

INTRODUCING BRG’S RESEARCH PORTAL

Bahrain Research Group (BRG) would like to introduce our Research Portal! BRG’s Research portal is a directory of research papers conducted in the GCC (primarily Bahrain) across a wide variety of disciplines. We collect information such as the abstract of the paper, the discipline, and other vital information which is placed into our directory. As a result, by placing a few keywords into the search bar, our Research Portal has the ability to search through all pieces of information to display the most relevant pieces of literature.

WHY THE NEED FOR A RESEARCH PORTAL?

By centralizing research, this allows researchers and students to sort through and find the most relevant pieces of literature for work. As a result, the BRG Research Portal plays an important role in the research and education community, boosting the efficiency, speed, and quality of finding important literature for research and the educational community.

As a result, the BRG Research portal is open access and for free for the community, given the importance that it plays towards the research and educational community.

HOW DOES THE RESEARCH PORTAL WORK?

The first step is that we must go out and find relevant and appropriate research material. This is done by using key terms such as “Bahrain”, “GCC”, and other words where we filter for relevant topics on researchgate, JSTOR, and ScienceDirect. Once we identify an appropriate paper, we fill in the most relevant information into the portal, those are:

  • Paper Title

  • Paper Category/Discipline

  • Abstract (if possible, if no abstract is present, some form of the introduction is used which is deemed appropriate)

  • Author(s)

  • Papers link

  • Access type.

With this information collected, and placed into our research portal, when a researcher enters keywords such as “inflation, monetary policy”, our research portal will use all fields to look for such keywords and provide the most relevant results.

From the graph above, the BRG Research Portal is able to extract information from multiple different fields. This means that once the Research portal contains a substantial amount of papers (in every category type), the more specific a user enters keywords, the more specific the papers will be in the search results.

WHAT ARE OUR AIMS AND OBJECTIVES?

Currently, we are at 453 papers uploaded on the portal, however, for the 2019-2020 year, we plan to have 3,000 papers uploaded onto our portal (by the end of November 2020). This is done by aiming for approximately 200 papers per month.

OPEN TOWARDS SUBMISSIONS

Given that we won’t be able to find every last paper written on Bahrain and the GCC, we are always open to submissions on papers that you may have found, or any research you may have authored!
